LIV Golf League: Bryson DeChambeau withdraws from LIV Golf Mexico City ahead of final round due to wrist injury

Bryson DeChambeau has withdrawn from LIV Golf Mexico City, ahead of the final round, due to a wrist injury.

DeChambeau - a two-time winner on LIV Golf this season - was sitting on two over and 16 strokes behind third-round leader Jon Rahm, having followed back-to-back 71s with a two-over 73 on Saturday.

In a statement, DeChambeau said: "I experienced some discomfort in my wrist during yesterday's round and have decided to withdraw from the final round of LIV Golf Mexico City to prevent further injury.

"Not how I wanted this week to go, but wishing the Crushers a strong finish. I'm going to take a few days to get evaluated and hope to be ready for LIV Golf Virginia."

DeChambeau won LIV Golf events in Singapore and South Africa earlier this season ahead of The Masters, where he missed the cut after posting an opening-round 76 and then finish a second-round 74 with a final-hole triple bogey.

Mexico's Luis Carrera replaced DeChambeau in the Crushers GC line-up for the final round, where Rahm resumed two clear of Ryder Cup team-mate Tyrrell Hatton and three ahead of Tom McKibbin.

DeChambeau's mid-tournament withdrawal comes in a week where the LIV Golf League's has come under heavy scrutiny, following reports that the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) is set to end its financial support towards the circuit.

LIV chief executive Scott O'Neil was quoted as saying the league is "funded through the season" and would then "work like crazy" to keep going, although rebuffed comments made from Sergio Garcia - a team captain - suggesting funding was in place until 2030.

O'Neil told TNT Sports: "It's just not the way the world works. We have commitments to have this being a going concern.

"The reality is, you're funded through the season, and then you work like crazy as a business to create a business and a business plan to keep us going. But that's not different from any other private equity-funded business in the history of mankind."

Earlier in the week O'Neil wrote to LIV staff that the season "continues exactly as planned, uninterrupted and at full throttle", making no reference to anything beyond this season.

The PIF has yet to comment - as of April 19 - about LIV Golf's future.

LIV Golf announced on Sunday that it planned to return to Club de Golf Chapultepec for LIV Golf Mexico City 2027, continuing its multi-year commitment to the region.

The next LIV Golf League event is LIV Golf Virginia, scheduled to take place from May 7-10 at Trump National Golf Club in Washington DC.

DeChambeau is also scheduled to feature at the PGA Championship a week later, live on Your Site. or .
